Mason

You read the plans, set out the work and build foundations, load-bearing walls and partitions in concrete block, brick and stone. You handle formwork for slabs and lintels, pour and vibrate concrete, and apply traditional and machine-projected renders. Most sites are within the Rhône department, with travel covered by trajet indemnities. The crew runs a 39 hour week, Monday to Friday, with the four extra hours paid as overtime. A site supervisor checks levels and finish daily and signs off each phase before the next trade arrives.

Driving licence B; CACES R482 cat. A for mini-loader is a plus

Masons who run their section cleanly move up to chef d'équipe within two to three years, with a raise and a crew of their own. The firm funds CACES and rope-access certifications for those who want them.

Outdoor sites across the Rhône, fixed five to twelve person crews, work continues in cold and rain with weather stoppages only in extreme conditions. Plant includes mortar mixers, concrete pumps and a Manitou telehandler on the larger sites.
