You set out and build block and brick walls, mix mortar to the dosage given by the site foreman and render interior and exterior surfaces. The work includes chasing walls for services and making them good, casting small slabs and lintels, setting formwork for stair landings and stripping it the next day. Levels are checked with a spirit level and a laser before the wall is closed. You report to the site foreman and work alongside a labourer. Hours are 08:00-17:00 from Monday to Friday, with an hour for lunch on site.

CAP macon or at least three years on building sites

A bricklayer who takes on the setting out and reads the plan for a whole floor moves to chef d'equipe, leading three or four workers, which is the usual step on a Paris renovation site.

The sites are occupied buildings in dense streets, with scaffolding on the facade, a dust extraction unit indoors and a site hut for breaks. A helmet, safety boots, gloves and a dust mask are worn at all times.
