Warehouse Operative

You receive and check incoming pallets against the delivery notes, then store them in the right racking bays. Most of the day is order picking with a handheld scanner, walking the aisles to pull items for outbound loads. You wrap and label finished pallets and stage them by the loading docks for the drivers. Some boxes are light, others go up to about 20 kg, so you are on your feet and lifting throughout the shift. The site runs two rotating shifts, roughly 6 to 14 and 14 to 22, Monday to Friday, with the occasional Saturday morning during busy weeks. Pallet trucks and a wrapping machine are part of the daily kit; if you hold a forklift licence that is a plus, but it is not required to start.

You start at 980 EUR net a month. Once you know the racking layout and hit the picking targets, you move up to 1140 EUR net, usually within the first year. Reliable people who pick up the forklift get first call on the better-paid roles.

It is a large covered warehouse with concrete floors, high racking and busy loading bays. Heating in winter is limited near the docks, so it can get cold in the mornings, and there is steady noise from the trucks and the wrapping line. Steel-toe boots and a hi-vis vest are provided and worn at all times.
