MIG/MAG Welder

You will run MIG and MAG welds on steel sections for structural and general fabrication, mostly plate and tube from 3mm up to heavier stock. The shift starts at 7am and runs to 4pm, Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday morning when the order book is full. A foreman reads the drawings with you at the start of each batch, then you set your own wire speed and gas mix and work through the parts. You grind and clean your seams, tack and fit before the full pass, and check each weld against the spec before it moves to paint. Some jobs are at the bench, others on larger frames where you weld kneeling or overhead. You are responsible for your own machine, keeping the torch and liners in good order through the day.

Solid MIG and MAG experience on steel, 3mm and up

Able to read basic fabrication drawings and weld symbols

Comfortable grinding, fitting and tacking your own work

Clean, consistent seams that pass visual inspection

Basic English is enough, the team works in Portuguese

Pay starts at the figure above and rises as you prove your hand on the harder joints and pass the in-house weld tests. Welders who take on coded work and help train newer hands reach the top of the band within the first year or so. From there the next step is lead welder, with charge over a small bench crew.

The shop is a covered fabrication hall with proper extraction over the welding bays and good lighting at every station. It gets warm in summer and there is real noise from grinding and cutting nearby, so ear and eye protection are worn all day. The crew is small and most people have been there a while, so you are never short of someone to ask.
