Construction Site Laborer

You start most mornings at 7 and the day runs to about 5, six days a week with Sunday off. The work is mixing and carrying concrete, hauling bricks and rebar up to the masons, and keeping the floors swept and clear of debris. You will unload trucks of cement bags and blocks by hand and stack them where the foreman points. Some days you dig footings and trenches with a shovel and pickaxe, other days you help set up scaffolding and formwork for the next pour. When the concrete pump arrives you guide the hose and vibrate the mix so it settles right. The foreman speaks slowly and shows you each task, so basic Albanian or English is enough.

Physically fit and able to lift 25 kg bags and blocks all day

After a few months on the tools the foreman watches who learns fast and shows up. Steady workers move up to better paid tasks like running the concrete pump or leading a small crew, and the pay climbs with the new role. Most laborers who stick around see their net wage rise within the first year.

This is an open air residential site, so you work in the sun in summer and the cold and mud in winter. It is loud with mixers and grinders, dusty near the cutting, and the ground is uneven until the floors are poured. The crew is around fifteen men and the foreman runs a tidy, safe site with hard hats and harnesses enforced.
