You lay block and brick infill between the concrete frames, set the wall out from the line and the level, and keep the openings to the dimensions on the drawing. The day starts with mortar and material brought up to the floor, then the first course set on the damp course, the corners raised and the line run between them. You cut blocks with a saw, leave the chases the electrician asked for and clear the floor before you leave. Work runs 07:00-16:00 with an hour break, Saturday until 13:00, and you report to the site foreman.

Trade school in construction or equal practice on site

Bricklayers who set out their own walls take a crew of three within two years, and the company pays the safety at height course that a crew leader needs.

Work is outdoors on a shell structure, on scaffold and on the floor slab, in summer heat and winter rain. A helmet, a harness, gloves and boots are provided, and the crew stops for water in the hottest hours.
