A building contractor working on apartment renovations and small new builds in Peristeri and the western suburbs of Athens is taking on labourers. The contracts run eight to fourteen months and the crews move between three or four sites in the same part of the city. Work is registered with EFKA from the first day and the site is covered by the construction insurance scheme.
About role
You mix mortar and render, carry block, board and bags to the working level, set up and strike the scaffold under the foreman, and keep the site clean and the skips filled. On demolition days you break out old plaster and screed with a breaker, sort the waste and load the container. You hold the level and the line for the tradesmen and learn the trade on the job. The day runs 07:00-15:00, Monday to Friday, with Saturday paid as overtime.
Who's a fit?
No qualification required, the trade is learned on the site
Physically fit, able to carry and to work on a scaffold all day
Comfortable with heights up to the third floor on a fixed scaffold
Follows the foreman and the site safety rules without argument
Willing to work Saturday when the pour or the delivery needs it
Basic English or Greek for tool names and safety instructions
Residence and work authorisation for Greece, arranged before arrival
Benefits
Net salary from 950 up to 1045 EUR per month
Fixed term contract of eight to fourteen months, renewed between projects
Full EFKA insurance and the Greek fourteen salary year

Promotion terms
A labourer who shows a steady hand on render or block work is moved onto the trowel within a season and paid the craftsman rate. The contractor also pays for the scaffolding certificate for those who want it.
Work environment
Open sites in the city, so the work follows the weather, with shaded rest points and drinking water in summer. A helmet, a harness on the scaffold, gloves and boots are mandatory and are supplied and replaced by the employer.
