Bricklayer

You set out the wall from the drawing, mix or receive the mortar, and lay blocks and bricks to line and level with a string line, a spirit level and a plumb bob. You build internal partitions, form openings with lintels, chase walls for services and make good after the electricians and plumbers. You prepare surfaces for plaster and apply a base coat where required. Scaffolding is erected by the certified crew and you work from it rather than building it. The site day is 07:00-16:00, Monday to Friday, with the foreman on site.

At least three years on building sites as a bricklayer

Confident use of a spirit level, a plumb bob and a string line

Ability to read a simple site drawing and set out a wall

Valid safety training under the construction agreement, or willingness to attend it

Physical fitness for work at height on a fixed scaffold

English at A2 for the site briefing and the safety signs

A driving licence is useful for moving between sites

Net salary from 1470 up to 1615 EUR per month

Permanent contract under the construction industry agreement

Cassa Edile registration with its holiday and seniority payments

Travel time between sites paid inside the working day

Safety course and periodic medical examination paid by the employer

Shared company accommodation for workers arriving from abroad

Helmet, harness, safety boots and gloves supplied and replaced

A bricklayer who reads drawings well and sets out accurately is put forward as a working team leader on the smaller renovation sites.

Sites are occupied or empty residential buildings with fixed scaffolding, edge protection and a site welfare unit. Helmet, safety boots, gloves and a harness for work at height are mandatory.
