A building contractor working on residential renovations in the Milan hinterland is hiring bricklayers for its own crews. Blockwork, plaster preparation and concrete repairs on occupied buildings, with a permanent contract under the construction agreement.
About role
You lay hollow block and brick partitions, prepare the mortar bed, and set lintels and window frames to the line the site foreman marks out. The week also covers stripping old plaster, patching reinforced concrete with repair mortar, laying screed and keeping the scaffold deck clear of rubble. You read the site drawing for openings and levels, work with a laser level and a plumb bob, and account for the material you draw from the store. Hours are 08:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00, five days, on sites inside the Milan ring road.
Who's a fit?
Trade school or an apprenticeship in building work
At least three years of bricklaying on site
Blockwork, plaster and repair mortar in practice
Confident with a laser level, plumb bob and cutting saw
Valid site safety training, or the paid 16 hour course
Basic English or Italian on site, both are accepted

Promotion terms
A bricklayer who reads the drawing well moves to crew lead on a small site within two years, and the contractor pays the courses for scaffolding and confined space work.
Work environment
The sites are occupied residential buildings, so the crew works behind dust screens with vacuum cutting and a wetted floor. Helmet, harness on the scaffold, goggles and dust masks are mandatory and supplied.
