Construction Labourer

You keep the trades supplied and the site in order: mortar mixed to the sheet, block and brick carried to the scaffold, materials moved with a wheelbarrow or the hoist, and the working area swept at the end of the day. You help strike and clean formwork, cut block on the table saw, load and empty skips and separate waste for the container. On concrete days you spread and vibrate under the mason's instruction. The site runs 08:00-17:00 from Monday to Friday, with the foreman setting the tasks each morning.

Labourers who learn to set out and lay to a line move up to the bricklaying grade inside two years, which carries the higher rate under the sector agreement. The company pays the training.

Open residential sites with tube scaffold, a hoist and a site cabin, working outdoors in all weather from spring through the winter. Helmet, gloves, dust mask and safety boots are mandatory and are supplied by the employer.
