You set out the wall from the drawing and the level line, lay block and brick to the string, keep the course level and the wall plumb, and leave the openings to the size on the sheet. Lintels are bedded, reveals squared and services chased before plastering. You render internally with a machine or by hand, rule off and finish with a float. Materials are ordered from the crew leader the day before. The site runs 08:00-17:00 from Monday to Friday, with voluntary paid Saturdays.

Bricklayers who set out a floor and finish it without rework take a crew of four within two years, and from there the site foreman role. The company pays for the scaffold inspection certificate.

Renovation sites inside occupied streets, with tube scaffold on the facade, a hoist for materials and a site cabin for tools. Helmet, gloves, dust mask and safety boots are mandatory and are supplied by the employer.
