Greenhouse Packing Worker

You pick and cut crops in the greenhouse, grade them by size and quality against the buyer's specification and pack them into trays, sleeves or pots. You also seed, pot on, thin and weed between harvests, and move trolleys of finished goods to the cold store. Each pallet is labelled with the batch and the date. The day runs 06:00 to 15:00 Monday to Friday with Saturday work in peak weeks, and you report to the growing supervisor.

Completed compulsory schooling, no horticultural training required

Workers who return for a second season take the machine grade of the agreement, driving the tractor and the forklift, and the holding keeps a small year round crew from its seasonal staff.

Glasshouses held at 18 to 24 degrees with high humidity, plus a cool packing hall at about 10 degrees. Gloves, knee pads and non slip shoes are supplied, and plant protection work is done by trained staff only.
