Bricklayer

You will lay brick, block and aerated concrete for walls, partitions and facades on residential and commercial sites around the city. Days start early, usually around 6:30, and run to mid afternoon, with the heavy lifting done before the heat sets in during summer. You mix and spread mortar, set out courses to the line, check level and plumb, and cut units with an angle grinder or block saw where the drawing calls for it. Expect to work off tube scaffold and the occasional mobile tower, so a head for heights matters. Some weeks lean toward repair and pointing on older buildings in the centre, other weeks are clean new builds on the outskirts. You report to a site foreman and work alongside two or three other bricklayers and a labourer.

You start at 1440 euro net and move up as you prove the work holds the line and the level. Once the foreman trusts you to set out and run a small section on your own, pay climbs toward 1660 euro net. Steady hands and clean joints get you there inside the first year.

Sites range from tight city plots in the old centre to open new builds near the ring road, so no two weeks look the same. You work outdoors in real weather, with covered areas and warm breaks in winter and early finishes on the hottest summer days. The crew is small and the foreman is on site every day, so questions get answered fast.
