You lay block and brick walls on residential structures: setting out the first course from the marked line, laying aerated concrete and clay blocks in thin bed mortar, keeping the wall plumb and the courses level, and building in lintels, sills and service chases. You close the openings after the formwork crew, render the internal reveals and help with the reinforced concrete lintels. Material reaches the floor by crane, so the pallets are planned a day ahead. A crew of eight works under a foreman who checks each wall before the plaster.

Bricklayers who read the plan on their own take over the setting out and then the crew, and the company pays for the scaffolding certificate and the site first aid course.

Work is outdoors on a fenced site with a tower crane, a mortar silo at the foot of the building and scaffolding erected by a licensed team. Helmet, gloves, safety boots and a harness on the scaffold are mandatory.
