Construction Labourer

You move formwork panels, reinforcement and blocks to the working level, mix and feed mortar to the bricklayers, and keep the scaffold decks and the stairs clear. You strip and clean formwork, pull nails, stack panels by size and load the skip with waste sorted by type. At the end of the day the tools are counted back into the container and the site is swept. Work runs from Monday to Friday, 07:00-16:00, with Saturday morning offered in the concrete weeks and paid at the overtime rate.

No trade certificate needed, site experience is what counts

Physically fit for lifting and carrying through a full day

Follows an instruction from the foreman exactly and asks when unsure

Valid site safety induction, or willingness to take it in the first week

A labourer who works steadily with one trade for a season is taken on as a helper to that trade, most often bricklaying or formwork, and the contractor pays for the vocational examination.

An open site in the city, so the work is outdoors in cold, heat and rain, on scaffold decks and inside unfinished floors. Helmet, boots, gloves, a high visibility vest and a harness above two metres are mandatory.
