Warehouse Operative

You pick orders from a printed list and from a hand scanner, build the pallet with the heavy cases at the bottom, wrap it and move it to the dispatch lane with a pallet truck. Every pallet is counted twice, once by you and once at the gate, and you sign for what you loaded. You also unload incoming trucks, check the quantity against the delivery note and place the goods in the marked aisle. Two shifts run 07:30-15:00 and 15:00-23:00 with a weekly rotation, Sunday is free, and you report to the shift leader.

Primary or secondary school, no trade certificate needed

Able to lift cases of up to 25 kg through a full shift

Counting accurately and writing down what was picked

Basic use of a hand scanner after training on site

Willingness to rotate two shifts every week

Basic English for labels and safety signs

Operatives who learn the whole aisle layout move on to goods receiving and to stock control within a year. The warehouse pays for the forklift licence for those who take the counterbalance truck.

A dry, lit hall with a concrete floor kept at room temperature, with a chilled room for fresh goods. Ear protection is not needed, but safety shoes, gloves and a high visibility vest are worn on the floor.
