A steel fabrication workshop in the Harburg industrial zone south of the Elbe is taking on MIG/MAG welders for its structural line. The shop builds platforms, frames and tank supports for plant builders in the north. Permanent contract with two shifts.
About role
You weld steel sections and plate in MIG/MAG on a jig, following the drawing and the weld symbol given for each joint. The shift starts with checking the wire, the gas flow and the earth clamp, then tacking the assembly, running the fill passes and grinding the seam where it will be coated. You measure the frame with a tape and a square before it leaves the jig, stamp your own work and report porosity or undercut to the welding foreman. Shifts run 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 with a weekly rotation.
Who's a fit?
Trade qualification in welding or metalwork, or equal practice
At least three years in MIG/MAG on steel above 4 mm
A valid certificate to EN ISO 9606 is an advantage
Able to read a fabrication drawing and weld symbols
Steady with an angle grinder, a square and a tape
Basic English for machine menus and safety labels

Promotion terms
Welders who pass the shop's fillet and butt test move to the certified pressure work and later to the weld inspection role, both of which are paid a grade higher.
Work environment
A covered hall with a fume extraction arm at every booth, welding screens between the bays and a separate grinding corner. Mask, leather apron, gloves and safety shoes are mandatory and supplied.
