Packing Operator

You feed the line with film reels, cartons and product, set the date coder for the batch and start the machine. Through the shift you watch the seal quality, clear a jam when the sensor stops the belt, weigh a sample from each pallet and write it on the batch sheet. Finished cartons are stacked on the pallet to the pattern on the wall card, wrapped and labelled for dispatch. You hand the batch sheet and the machine log to the next shift. The three shifts are 06:00-14:00, 14:00-22:00 and 22:00-06:00 with a weekly rotation.

An operator who learns the changeover and the date coder becomes a line setter within a year, and the plant fills its shift leader posts from the floor. The forklift authorisation course is paid.

A clean packing hall at a steady temperature, with guards on every belt, ear protection at the sealing station and a canteen next to the changing rooms. Gloves, hair net and safety shoes are supplied by the employer.
