CNC Machine Operator

You load the blank, start the programme, watch the first piece through and then measure every tenth piece with a caliper, a micrometer and a plug gauge against the drawing. You correct the tool offset when a dimension drifts, change an insert when the edge is worn and record the correction in the machine log. You keep the coolant level up and the chip conveyor clear and hand the machine over clean. The machines are three axis lathes and mills with Fanuc and Siemens controls. Shifts are 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 with a weekly rotation.

Trade school in machining, mechanics or a related field

At least two years at a CNC lathe or milling machine

Reading a technical drawing with tolerances and surface marks

Measuring with a caliper, a micrometer and plug gauges

Entering a tool offset on a Fanuc or Siemens control

Willingness to rotate two shifts every week

Net salary from 1250 up to 1375 EUR per month

Operators who hold the tolerance on their own for a year are trained to set the machine and then to edit the programme at the control, which is the step to the setter and programmer rate.

A machining hall with enclosed machines, extraction over the coolant mist and a measuring room beside the line. Safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes are worn on the floor, and hearing protection is available on request.
