Meat Processing Worker

You work in a chilled room at about four degrees, taking cuts off the belt, trimming to the specification card, weighing the portion and setting it on the tray for packing. You keep the knife sharp on the steel, change the blade when it stops cutting clean and hand the tools in at the end of the shift. Temperature, weight and lot number go on the sheet at every change of batch. Two shifts run 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 with a weekly rotation, and you report to the room supervisor.

Finished primary school, butchery school is an advantage but not required

Workers who learn the full cutting card move to the boning line, which is paid at a higher rate, and from there to quality control on the chilled goods. The plant pays for the butchery course.
