Site Bricklayer

You set out the wall from the drawing and the marked line, build in block and brick, and keep the course level with a line and a laser. Openings, lintels and the ring beam are part of the job, as is leaving the chases the electrician and the plumber will need. Mortar comes from the mixer on the floor, so you order what your gang uses and keep the waste down. Before the day ends you clean the joints, cover the fresh wall in the rain, and tidy the pallets so the crane can lift them. Work is 07:00-16:00 with a paid break.

Trade school as a bricklayer or five years on site

The builder has three sites running and needs gang leaders on each, chosen from the bricklayers who already know the drawings. A leader takes the higher grade and the site phone.

An open site with a hoist, scaffolding to the sixth floor and a heated container for the break and for the clothes. Helmet, harness above two metres, gloves and boots with a steel sole are the rule.
