A steel fabrication works in the Karosta industrial area of Liepaja is hiring MIG and MAG welders for conveyor frames and handling equipment. The works ships to machine builders in Scandinavia and Germany and runs two shifts. The contract is permanent from the first day.
About role
You read the fabrication drawing, tack the parts in the jig, check the gap and the angle, then weld the seam with solid wire in mixed gas. Between passes you clean the slag and the spatter, change the contact tip and set the wire feed and the voltage for the plate thickness. Finished frames are measured against the drawing and stamped with your welder number before they go to the paint shop. Two shifts run 06:00-14:30 and 14:30-23:00 with a weekly rotation.
Who's a fit?
Vocational certificate in welding or equal practice
At least two years of MIG and MAG welding in production
Reading a fabrication drawing and a weld symbol without help
Correct use of a tape, a square and a weld gauge
Slinging licence an advantage, the course is paid
Willing to rotate the morning and the afternoon shift

Promotion terms
Welders who pass the coded test for structural steel move to the certified band and to the acceptance of other welders' seams. The shift foreman post is filled from inside the shop.
Work environment
A heated hall with local extraction at every welding bay, an overhead crane in each aisle and a separate grinding corner. A welding mask, leathers, gloves and safety shoes are mandatory and issued by the employer.
