Construction Labourer

You prepare the trench and the bedding, carry and set kerbstones and paving slabs, mix and place concrete for the foundations and keep the site tidy and fenced. You handle a breaker, a plate compactor and a petrol cutter after a short instruction, and you follow the setting out that the foreman marks each morning. Deliveries are unloaded and checked against the note before the driver leaves. The working day is 08:00-17:00 on weekdays, with overtime agreed in advance and paid at the statutory rate.

Completed primary school, no trade certificate required

A labourer who works a full season and takes the paving instruction moves onto the kerb and paving crew, which is paid at the trade rate rather than the helper rate.

Open air work on city streets and yards, with a fenced site, a heated site cabin for breaks and a container for tools. Helmet, high visibility vest, gloves and safety boots are mandatory and issued by the employer.
