A shell construction firm building apartment blocks in Milbertshofen in north Munich is taking on bricklayers for its masonry crews. The work is load bearing walls in sand lime block and clay block. Permanent contract with work in the Munich area only.
About role
You set out the wall from the drawing, lay the first course in mortar to the level, then build in thin bed or normal mortar with the block laid to the line. You form openings, set lintels, build in reinforcement where the plan requires it and keep the wall plumb with a spirit level and a plumb bob. You work with a labourer who mixes and feeds you, and you report to the foreman. The day runs 07:00-16:00 with two breaks, Friday ends at 14:00.
Who's a fit?
Trade qualification as a bricklayer or equal practice
At least three years on load bearing masonry
Confident with thin bed mortar and with large format blocks
Able to read a shell drawing and set out an opening
Head for heights for work on a scaffold deck
Basic German for the foreman and the safety briefing

Promotion terms
A bricklayer who works to the line without rework is put forward for the crew leader role, which sets out the storey and hands the wall over to the site supervisor.
Work environment
An open shell site with a tower crane, scaffolded facades, a mortar silo and a mixer on every storey. Helmet, safety boots, gloves and a harness in the edge zones are mandatory and issued.
