Fruit Packhouse Operative

You stand at the grading table and take out fruit with sun damage, splits or mould before it reaches the calibrator. Further down the line you place the fruit in the box by the size shown on the board, close the box, put on the label and stack it on the pallet in the pattern the customer requires. You change the box format when the line changes calibre and clear small jams at the roller. The campaign works 07:00-15:00, with an afternoon shift added in the peak weeks of December and January.

No previous experience required, the grading criteria are taught on the table

Food handler certificate, or willingness to take the course in the first week

Able to stand for a full shift and to stack boxes up to 18 kg

Good eye for colour and for surface damage on fruit

Available for the whole campaign from October to May

Basic English for labels and line signs

Residence permit valid for work in Spain

Net salary from 1320 up to 1452 EUR per month

Pay in fourteen instalments, prorated over the campaign months worked

Seasonal contract under the Valencian fruit handling agreement, with social security registration

Hours in the peak weeks paid at the overtime rate of the agreement

Heated break room and a subsidised hot menu at midday

Company bus from the Valencia city centre on the morning shift

Gloves, apron and safety shoes provided

Operatives who complete a full campaign are called first for the next one and are trained on the calibrator and the palletiser, which are the two graded posts of the packhouse.

A covered packhouse at ambient temperature with a cold chamber next door, washable floors, guarded rollers and a constant flow of water on the washing line. Gloves, apron and non slip safety shoes are supplied.
