Fruit and Vegetable Packer

You take fruit off the grading belt, sort out what is bruised, split or undersized, and pack the rest into trays and crates to the weight on the order. Each crate is weighed, labelled with the class and the date, and stacked on the pallet in the pattern for that customer. You change the liner and the label roll yourself and call the line leader when the grader misses a size. Hands are washed and gloves changed at every break. The station runs 07:00-15:00 with a second shift until 22:00 in the peak weeks, paid separately.

Primary school finished, packing practice is welcome but not required

Packers who learn the grading standards and the export labelling are kept on through the citrus months and are the first called for the line leader place next season.

A covered packing hall open at the sides with belts, scales and a pre cooling room next door, so the work is cool in the morning and warm after midday. An apron, gloves and a hair net are supplied.
