A construction firm working on apartment blocks in Novi Zagreb is taking on bricklayers for structural and partition work. The crews build block and brick walls, render them and lay screed on new build projects. The contract is permanent.
About role
You set the wall out from the marked line, lay block and brick to the level and the plumb line, cut openings for doors and windows and leave the chases the other trades need. You mix mortar to the stated ratio or take it from the silo, keep the joint thickness even and clean the face as you go. Scaffold is raised with the crew and checked before each lift. Work is Monday to Friday, 07:00-15:30, with a paid half hour break, and you report to the crew foreman.
Who's a fit?
Trade school for a bricklayer, or the same learned on site
At least three years laying block, brick or stone
Working to a level, a plumb line and a laser line
Mixing mortar and rendering a wall to an even thickness
Safe work on scaffold and in a harness at height
Basic English for site instructions and safety signs

Promotion terms
Bricklayers who keep the line and the level without correction lead a small crew within two years, and the firm pays for the scaffold erection course and for the site safety certificate.
Work environment
Open building sites through the year, cold in winter and hot in summer, with scaffold, lifting equipment and other crews working nearby. A helmet, boots, gloves and a harness at height are mandatory.
