Bricklayer

You build walls on residential blocks in the Retfala district, on the west side of the city. The day opens with the site foreman's briefing, where you take the drawing for your section and the heights for the day. You set the first course to the marked axes, take mortar from the silo, build load-bearing and partition walls in clay block and solid brick, and check the wall every few courses with a level, a plumb line and a string line. You set lintels over the openings and leave the wall clean for plastering. Work runs Monday to Friday 07:00-16:00 with a one hour break, and every second Saturday 07:00-13:00, with the Saturday hours paid as overtime. You report to the site foreman.

Vocational school in the building trades, or bricklaying learned on the job

At least three years of bricklaying on buildings

Building walls in clay block and solid brick to a drawing

Confident use of a level, a plumb line and a string line

Fitness for outdoor work and for lifting through the day

Willingness to work every second Saturday

Basic English for the foreman's instructions and the safety signs on site

Net salary from 1520 up to 1850 EUR per month

Employment contract for three years with full pension and health insurance

Organised transport from the accommodation to the site and back

Saturday hours paid as overtime on top of the monthly salary

Two weeks of summer leave for the whole crew, and long weekends when the schedule allows

Helmet, gloves, safety boots and work clothing issued on the first day

After twelve months on site, a bricklayer who leads a crew of three and hands over wall sections without rework moves to 1850 EUR net per month. Crew leaders are picked from the firm's own bricklayers.

Outdoor work on multi-storey sites with facade scaffolding, a tower crane and marked delivery routes, all year except in hard frost. A helmet, gloves, safety boots and a harness for work at height are mandatory and supplied by the employer.
