Greenhouse Vegetable Grower

You work a row from planting to the last pick: setting seedlings, tying and clipping the plants to the wire, removing side shoots and lower leaves, and hanging the bumblebee boxes where the agronomist marks them. Picking is by colour and size to the crate standard, and every crate is labelled with your number so quality can be traced back. You also help with drip line checks, weeding and washing the crates. The agronomist walks the rows twice a day. Hours are 06:00 to 14:30 in summer, with Sunday off.

A second season brings a block of rows to run with two people under it, and the holding trains two workers a year as sprayer operators, which is paid a grade higher.

Glass and plastic houses with roof vents, shade paint in high summer and a shaded rest area with cold drinking water. Spraying is done at night by licensed operators, and the row is closed until the re entry period ends.
