A freight forwarder in the Billbrook industrial zone east of Hamburg port is taking on warehouse operatives for its groupage hall. The site handles sea freight for customers in northern Germany. Permanent contract with two shifts and a fixed team.
About role
You unload containers and trailers by hand or with the pallet truck, count the pieces against the packing list and mark any damage on the delivery note before it is signed. You weigh and measure consignments for the freight system, label them and sort them by destination to the outbound lanes. You keep the lanes free, help build the loading order and secure the load with straps and edge protectors. Shifts run 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 with a weekly rotation.
Who's a fit?
Completed schooling, no trade qualification needed
Some warehouse or port experience is an advantage
Able to lift up to 20 kg and to work standing all shift
Accurate counting and careful notes on a delivery document
Willing to rotate two shifts week by week
Basic English for freight labels and system entries

Promotion terms
Operatives with the forklift licence move to the loading team, which builds the trailer order and is paid a grade higher under the forwarding agreement.
Work environment
A groupage hall with fourteen dock doors, a covered yard and a draught at the gates in winter. Safety shoes, a high visibility vest, gloves and a winter jacket are mandatory and supplied.
