Order Picker

You walk or ride the picking route the voice terminal reads out, take the number of cartons it asks for, and set them on the roll container in the order the shop wants to unload them. Heavy goods go to the bottom, bread and eggs on top. You confirm every line, report a gap on the shelf straight away so the stock is corrected, and wrap the finished container before it goes to the dock. Targets are counted per hour and the standard is reached in the third week. Shifts are 06:00-14:00 and 13:00-21:00.

Finished primary school, no warehouse experience needed

Pickers who pass the standard and finish the season are offered a permanent contract in the spring, and the firm pays the forklift licence for the ones who want the machines.

Two zones under one roof, a dry hall at room temperature and a chilled hall at plus four, with rubber mats along the picking fronts. Gloves, safety shoes and the cold store jacket are issued on the first day.
