Warehouse Worker

You take the trailers in, count the goods against the delivery note, and report a short count or a wet carton to the foreman before the driver leaves. Through the day you build customer pallets from the picking list, wrap them with stretch film, label them and set them in the outbound lane. Tiles, adhesive and plasterboard are heavy, so two people lift together and the pump truck does the rest. You sweep your aisle, flatten the packaging for recycling, and finish the shift with a short count on the fast moving items. One shift, 07:00-15:00.

Finished primary school, further schooling is welcome but not required

The warehouse pays the forklift licence for workers who stay a year, and the two current shift foremen both started on goods in. Anyone who learns the item codes can move to the sales counter.

A covered hall with an open yard for sand and blocks, so the work is warm in summer and cold in winter and the clothing is issued for both. Gloves, safety shoes and a helmet in the yard are mandatory.
