Auto Mechanic

You take the job card from the service desk, put the car on the lift and do the agreed work: oil and filter service, brake pads and discs, timing belt, clutch, shock absorbers and exhaust repair. You read the fault codes on the tester, decide what is worth checking further, and call the customer through the reception when the price changes. Parts are ordered from two suppliers in the city and arrive the same day. You note the hours and the parts used on the card, and you leave the bay swept at the end of the day. The workshop is open 08:00-16:30 with a lunch break.

Trade school for motor vehicle mechanics or three years in a workshop

Independent oil, brake and suspension work without supervision

A mechanic who takes the diagnostic work over becomes the shop diagnostician, which is the best paid seat in the workshop. The owner also pays the air conditioning gas licence, which brings extra work every spring.

A bright hall with four bays, extraction on the exhaust line, a separate parts room and a washed floor. Gloves, safety boots and eye protection for grinding are supplied, and the tyre work is done in a screened corner.
