Port Warehouse Worker

You unload containers and trailers with a pallet truck, read the packing list against what is on the pallet, and note damage with a photograph before the pallet leaves the bay. Stock goes to a marked location, the label faces the aisle, and every move is confirmed on a hand scanner. Twice a week you help with a partial count and you keep the bay swept and the empty pallets stacked. The bay runs 07:00-15:00 and 15:00-23:00 in a weekly rotation, with a paid half hour break, and you report to the warehouse foreman.

Primary school finished, no previous warehouse work needed

Able to lift 25 kg repeatedly through a shift

Workers who take the forklift licence move to the reach truck and to stock control, and the two current bay leaders both started on the pallet truck. Customs paperwork training is open after the first year.

A covered warehouse open to the quay on one side, so summer work is warm and the sea wind is constant in winter. Safety boots, a vest and gloves are mandatory, walkways are painted and the forklift lanes are separated.
